  • Miyarhat

Al Amin is a resident of Kalakopa village in Daulatkhan upazila and a small grocer by profession. His family with parents, one brother and one sister. His family was struggling with this meager income of the shop. He had been looking for an alternative source of income for a long time to bring back prosperity to his family.

Al-Amin's father is a farmer, and his mother is a housewife. Al-Amin had a keen interest in fish farming since childhood. He leased a 40 decimal pond two years ago and bought some fish and started farming but could not make a profit. He learned one day from the Grameen Jana Unnayan Sangstha in the Kalakopa area that members are being encouraged to cultivate fish through free training. Hearing this, he saw the light of hope. He contacted the field staff of Grameen Jan Unnayan Sangstha. The field worker made effective contact with the Coordinating Agricultural Unit through the branch manager of the Grameen Jano Unnayan Sangstha.

Being a member of the Grameen Jano Unnayan Sangstha, he learned about different types of fish farming through training and showed interest in integrated Vietnam pangas-carp farming.

Vietnam Pangas Exhibition under the Integration Agriculture Unit of FY 2021-2022, he received all the materials of the exhibition such as nets, nets, organic manure, vegetables and Vietnam Pangas fish. Besides, with the loan from the organization, about 4800 fish fries were stocked in the pond. He acquired 3,000 kg of fish after six months of cultivating, which he sold at the market price of Rs 130 per kg, earning about Rs 3,90,000. Excluding food and labor costs, he currently earns about Rs. 30,000 / - (thirty thousand) per month. Furthermore, he earned monthly around Rs. 2000 / - by cultivating vegetables in the bank of the pond.  Apart from the grocery business, fish farming has brought a lot of prosperity to the family, and with the profit money he has bought 2 cows which he uses regularly to manure the pond, which has saved the cost of fish feed.

He thanked the organization for benefiting from the advanced technology in fish farming in the remote Bhola district. He has made every effort to lease two more ponds with an area of 50-decimal in the future. The people of the area have been inspired by his success. Another 7 farmers are willing to monoculture of the Vietnamese Pangas. Al Amin is now widely known in the area as a fish farmer.
